I think biggest hurdle that a new member has face is the text editor. When we were testing the software, people were experimenting with the editor right on the main forum. It didn’t matter who posted what, because everybody was just messing around with it. Now that it is open to the public there is no place for a new member to go and try out their posting skills.
You might consider opening a separate “test drive” forum where a member can go and experiment without having to post the results to one of the main forums. Maybe start it off with the old test posts from the main forum.

That's a great idea. I have put up a new forum called "The Playground". I would be interested in knowing if you think the description is clear enough.

Thanks!

It looks fine to me and I see that someone has already tried it out “Embedded a picture too”. I think that when the members realize just how powerful a communication tool the embedded picture can be, it will add a whole new dimension to the community. Everyone has computer problems from time to time and they can be time consuming and expensive. When someone has a software problem, there is a good chance that somebody else can help. However, text explanations are long and involved. It could take a number of posts just to get a proper description of the problem. Using screen capture, a problem post could be as simple as: I pushed the “Whatever” button and this happened can anybody help, followed by the embedded picture. The response could be as simple as: “Just do this” followed by an embedded picture. We used this as part of our beta testing program and it turned out to be our most effective problem-solving tool. If the members pick-up on this idea, it will help the community to develop a library of how-to’s and quick fixes for all sorts of software and computer problems. It’s so easy to do, and it has the potential to save the members some time, aggravation and money.

I just have to say:
I know that you people have put up with a lot of flack over this new format (especially Chaille and Jeff). It’s mostly due to a lack of understanding of the benefits that an online community can bring to its members. I am sure that as the pieces come together, the new forum will gain broad acceptance as the place to go (not just to vent, or share some thoughts), but the place to gain a better understanding of information technology and the benefits it provides.

Also:
It would be nice to see some other people throw a suggestion or two into the Technical Support Forum. Maybe the intro should read: Having problems using the PalletBoard? “Ask” here for help first! After all it’s so much easier to answer a “question asked” than it is to anticipate and address problems that some members might be experiencing.
Phone support adds a personal touch, but it’s a costly way of responding to the masses. I see that there are now 203 members: Imagine when that number grows to 2,000 or 20,000. Sooner or later phone support is going to become too costly to manage and of course nobody wants to pay a membership fee. So what’s the alternative? The Technical support forum! Maybe the intro should read something like this: “The Technical support forum is the cornerstone of information technology. It provides the mass communication link between users and programmers which is essential for the development of any broad based software. Unfortunately without user input, tech support is left twitling their thumbs. SO PLEASE! Ask a question, make a comment or complain about something, ANYTHING. It’s in your best interest to do so!”

By the way
Your response time was excellent. (If I had the new text editor I'd put a thumbs up right here.)
