Is there anyway to lengthen the length of time allowed to make a post. I keep getting "Time Out" when I try to make a post. It may be that I am just to new to make a good post so the computer weeds me out automatically!

The forum times out for everyone after 20 minutes of inactivity which is fairly standard for online systems. It's a security feature - protects you somewhat if you leave your PC without logging out.

If you are timing out sooner than 20 minutes, it's coming from something else. Are you getting a timeout message from the forum itself?

The message is from the forum. It only happens if I take longer than 2 minutes to type a post.

Are you still having a problem with timeouts?

I've just had to think about what I want to type and then type faster. It's worked so far although, I haven't posted a lot so we'll see how it goes in the future. Thanks.

fyi, I've had similar problems, so I tried to paste text, that didn't work, so I tried to upload a file and couldn't get that to work either, so I just gave up. Now I don't post unless I can be brief...and since I haven't been very active, Jeff has me labeled as a new member even though I was one of the first to register....

Can you send me the message that you receive and the URL of the page.

Jeff doesn't assign the member status - the forum does that automatically based on the number of posts you have made.

This is about the fifth time I have signed out and signed in again to do a post, all due to time outs, then though logged in, I have to sign out and log in again, and again and again. What's up, it is worse than before. No wonder some don't post out of frustration. The last post on this was on the 8th. No one can put anything lengthy and serious down.

I just tried again to upload a file. I tried a Word file, an html, and a test file. The Word and html were rejected by a message that said "not supported", the text file was "accepted?" but didn't show up in my message...same results as when I tried a few months ago...

Interesting, I see my text file is an attachment!! The old Board allowed me to copy and paste text from a Word file into the body of a post. This allowed me to author off-line at my own pace, then post in a few seconds...

Here's a version in rich text...nope, sorry not supported. Looks like at least from my desk top only text files work as attachments, and they aren't very appealing to the eye...guess an old fart like me will have to stick to short commentary.

I just made a change to the forum that is supposed to eliminate the time out problem. Please let me know if it helps or not.
