Has anyone had any experience with iGPS pallets?  What is the cost difference btwn these and Chep or Peco?  Is it worth it?

You have got to be kidding! One hundred dollars for a plastic pallet? That's good work if you can find it. It's hard enough to get some buyers to pay $9. How do you find someone ready to drop a hundred bucks a unit for a whole truckload?

iGPS is an all-plastic pallet pool. I've seen these pallets. They are pretty nice. I guess they cost between $65-75 new. Being a nice pallet has its disadvantages. That might make it more likely that people will want to keep them.

I hear that iGPS is droppings its prices to be competitive with CHEP and PECO. That can't last long. Here's why...

iGPS pallets cost about triple what the other pooled pallets do. I think CHEP tries to turn its pallets four+ times per year. That would mean that iGPS would have to turn pallets 12-14 times per year to be in the price ball park as CHEP. Otherwise, iGPS would have to have higher prices in the long run. They can lose money for so long before the investors will get nervous.

Interesting comments, more so when you combine with John Evans post on the 16th (Chep vs iGPS).   Except perhaps in China, Chep has not gone the way of plastic, yet have the power to do so the same as iGPS.  They have their reasons.

The other problem I think is the plastic, they can't be repaired when they get broken, and plastic prices seems like it will go up in price more than wood will, I think thats a big concern people stealing the plastic ones to recycle. Nobody really wants the red or blue pallets. And I know PECO has much better quality pallets than chep, PECO is going the right way.

IGPS was started by the former CEO of CHEP to directly compete with the blue giant after he was either relieved of his duties or forced out...

Has anybody heard of using two different RFID tags in one pallet to interoperate in two RF environments?
