Brambles Announces Intention to Sell Off White Wood Business in North America

Anybody want to buy a big pallet recycler? What do you think about taking over IFCO/CHEP Recycled?

You can find out more from the Brambles announcement:

I can't say I'm surprised, the purchase never really made sense to me outside of the RPC division.  The recycled segment of the industry is just too volatile to control the sales channel like a multinational conglomerate would like and investors demand.  It's much easier to project sales and drive profit when you really only have one competitor in North America on the rental side...

Looks like the valuation of the white-wood business is about US$80 million. Will Brambles get that? What do people think.

Was the RPC business really worth almost 3/4 of a billion by itself?  Even adding the $240M write down Brambles is expecting to take, $80M seems like a very low percentage on a $1.26 B purchase.   On it's face $80M equates to each location being worth a mere $1M.  Considering this figure there may be a few players within the industry willing to take the flyer just for the customer base.  Anybody want to loan me $79M? =)
